Joan Sindler is a master of composition and storytelling, her creations are Imagined and composed from hundreds of pages torn from magazines. Colored papers, wall papers, rice papers, laces and sparkling gems are infused, layered, and pasted. A myriad of images, textures and backgrounds are meticulously cut with scissors preserving every detail. When Joan sits down to do her work, ideas begin to emerge as her eyes scan the puzzle pieces until an idea and a direction determine what narrative she is going to present. Life and the times we live in are the driving force and undercurrent of her work. Joan often says, "Each work has a story to tell that coalesces from everyday life and the world we live in."
